____What is the meaning of freedom? Freedom is the privilege to do whatever you please, though usually within a reasonable range. Do you ever hear your mother telling you, "Do not play with my trust."? You might ask, what does this exactly have to do with freedom? Freedom is an earned thing; freedom does not come without a price. Your mother trusting you is the price of freedom when you are just a little colt. When you grow older, your freedom opens up more than before. But there is a price, the price of common sense, for if you do not have it, you will lose your life. What about one who is freedom-crazy? All he has been wishing for all his life is freedom, and he finally receives it. This is a warning for the one who is senseless. Beware, young stallion, for freedom is not to be played with.
____The Kiger Mustang lifted his head, nose pointed in the air. 'I smell water,' the stallion noted to himself, as he moved forward, slowly but surely. The wind was in his mane, blowing it across his striped face. Zene. Feeling excited upon the departure of his old herd, slowly dawning on the realization that he was indeed, free, he moved into a trot. Freedom was a sweet thing, really, and the more Zene though about it, the better it became. In a slow canter now, he flavored this freedom he had so wished for, closing his eyes for just the second. A wise horse would never close his eyes, even for a second, while moving, or on foreign territory. This stallion had not yet gained wisdom, and he was lucky that no danger harmed him. His hooves beat with a rhythmical beat on the hard dirt, dust rising up with every step. He loved it. And at that moment, the horse decided such, if he would not be the leader of a herd; he would not be in a herd at all. This freedom was more precious than anything else he had ever experienced, and he was not willing to give it away. And so as he daydreamed of more privileges of freedom, he moved on the endless plain.
____His sense of smell told him he was closer to the water than before, and the landscape was changing. The sun, which had been shining down on him since the beginning of his journey, started to disappear. Not in clouds, but blocked on the other side of hills. More and more hills appeared, as the Kiger Mustang finally approached the water. Lowering his sweaty neck, he drank, thankful. He had been thirsty after continually cantering, and the water was refreshing. His buckskin coat glistened from sweat, muscles handsomely showing. Zene was ignorant of the fact that he was on claimable land. He didn't realize that his dream could come: be the leader of a herd. But instinctively he did know that this was a comfortable place, lush green grass as far as the eye could see, and a large lake for water supply. There were big trees for shades, and as he looked around, he noticed a cave, too. Perfect for shelter. This was surely an ideal place to live, and after a long time admiring the scene, it finally struck him. There were no horse scents here, only the pure scent of nature. But it would be filled soon, with many different types of smells, because Zene would fill it. Yes, this land would be his. He reared up, powerfully striking the air with the front hooves, and falling back with a great 'thud'. He had seen horses do this, especially before something big happened. In a good mood the horse looked in all directions, admiring his new land. The rest of the day, he set out to venture the lands, spreading out his scent. The land was great in size, for sure. In a never tiring manner, he worked cheerfully to explore. He went into the shelter, and found that it would be very sufficient, though water dripped from its roof. By the time he was done exploring, it was close to midnight. Exhausted, he collapsed on the lakeside, slowly drifting asleep..
____Morning, sunshine and the lively chirping of birds woke up the Kiger Mustang. Ears flickering, alert, nostrils heaving in the scent of fresh dew, Zene lifted himself up. He shook his mane, and examined the place once more. Eyes glistened in new adventure; he would set out for mares. The thought made him feel bigger, stronger, and more powerful. An amused smile tugging at his face, the stallion set out at a full speed canter. Hooves beat the hard ground once more, and the sweet sense of freedom made him neigh in delight.
